A week spent documenting the beauty & mystic of Temple Basin. I was asked to take photographs for the New Zealand Snow Safety Institute while learning more about the sport of mountaineering. It was an awesome experience, learning about the vast complexities & different aspects of scaling mountains. From local weather patterns, terrain, ropes, glacier travel, snowpack & avalanche types to abseiling, ice climbing, snow caving & making anchors out of thin air (to name a few). Although it was relatively in depth on the basics, I realised I had only scratched the surface of what ultimately for many is a lifetime sport. The course itself was well structured & personalised with excellent instruction (Pete you legend). Being in the mountains for a week while exhausting on the body was incredibly refreshing for the man's mind. A disconnect from the constant distraction, clutter & tendencies that follow us like a shadow in our urban habitats. The mountains, they're almost as effective as Mum when it comes to keeping me level-headed, yet they're also the source for so much of my inspiration. A winning combination if you ask me! Great scenics, great food, great company & living aware every second.
